There are development projects and then there are transformational projects—those that change how we live, work, play, and get around our city. These 12 projects, either in progress or planned, will be transformational to not just their neighborhoods, but the city as a whole.

1. Michigan Central Train Depot
In the next three-to-four years, Ford Motor Company will build a campusfor mobility in Corktown at an. expected cost of $740 million. The campus will include the old DPS Book Depository, renovated into offices, retail, and residential; and, of course, the renovation of the long-vacant Michigan Central Station. The infusion of 5,000 workers, the renovations, and the subsequent investment could be the biggest game-changer in the city in years.
The first phase of construction and restoration began this spring, along with an announcement that the station would be powered by renewable energy.
2. Hudson’s site
Dan Gilbert and Bedrock broke ground on the tallest building in Detroit in late 2017, to be completed in 2022 or 2023. The development on the iconic site will include a possibly 912-foot-tall tower with an observation deck, a 14-story podium, a hotel, residential and offices, a ground floor market, retail space, and event space.
